Award Criteria

STUDENT OF THE YEAR
Awarded to a student who has made outstanding contributions and proven to be an exemplary citizen. This award is the highest honour that can be bestowed on a student. Consideration will be given to students at any grade level who meet the criteria of accomplishment, leadership, service, and involvement. Criteria includes accomplishment in academic work or sports; positive leadership within the classroom, teams, or activities; significant volunteer service to the school, individual teachers/students, or programs; and positive involvement in the life of the school through participation in extracurricular activities.

BEN MANDRUSIAK “HEART OF GOLD” AWARD
Grade 9 award presented in memory of former principal and educator, Mr. Ben Mandrusiak. It is given to a well rounded and selfless individual who has been an excellent student and citizen at F.R. Haythorne. This individual will have regularly exhibited the personal qualities most valued by Mr. Mandrusiak, including empathy, patience, kindness, positive leadership, and optimism.

Grade 7 Exemplary Citizenship AWARD
Award given to recognize a student who has made a significant contribution to the school and proven themselves a model citizen. This award recognizes a student who meets the criteria of leadership, service, and involvement. As such, they are a positive leader in the classroom, during extracurricular/school activities; and foster a greater sense of volunteerism within the school. Student is well rounded, well grounded, well respected and committed to learning.

Grade 8 Exemplary Citizenship AWARD
Award given to recognize a student who has made a significant contribution to the school and proven themselves a model citizen. This award recognizes a student who meets the criteria of leadership, service, and involvement. As such, they are a positive leader in the classroom, during extracurricular/school activities; and foster a greater sense of volunteerism within the school. Student is well rounded, well grounded, well respected and committed to learning.
